AirAsia, one of the leading low-cost airlines in Asia, has announced the launch of direct flights from Bangkok to Kathmandu, Nepal. This new route is set to provide travelers with more convenient and affordable options for exploring the vibrant culture and majestic landscapes of Nepal. With four weekly flights operating between Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport and Kathmandu, AirAsia is aiming to cater to the growing demand for travel in the South Asian region.
The service, scheduled to begin on October 2, will be operated using the A320neo aircraft, known for its efficiency and comfort. To celebrate the launch of the new route, AirAsia is offering a special promotional fare starting at just 9,990 Nepalese Rupees per trip, equivalent to around 2,600 baht. This promotional fare is available for bookings made until August 25, with travel dates extending from October 2 to March 28, 2025.
Competing in the Bangkok-Kathmandu circuit, AirAsia will join Thai Lion in serving Don Mueang Airport, while Thai Airways and Nepal Airlines continue their flights from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport. With roundtrip fares starting at US$188 (approximately 6,500 baht), AirAsia’s competitive pricing undercuts rivals like THAI and Thai Lion, whose fares range from US$271 to US$337.
Thai AirAsia CEO Santisuk Klongchaiya expressed his enthusiasm for the new route, stating, “This is AirAsia’s 16th destination in South Asia since we resumed near full-scale operations post-pandemic. This region has tremendous growth potential, which has only made us work even harder to roll out more flight services to meet the demand for tourism, trade, and business purposes.”
Nepal, known for its UNESCO World Heritage Sites, offers travelers a unique blend of cultural heritage and natural beauty. From the iconic temples of Swayambhunath and Boudhanath to the historical sites of Kathmandu’s Durbar Square, visitors can immerse themselves in the rich history of the region. For spiritual seekers, Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautama Buddha, provides a serene and enlightening experience.
Nature enthusiasts can also explore the breathtaking mountain views of Nepal, with popular trekking destinations like Pokhara’s Annapurna Base Camp and the iconic Everest Base Camp offering unforgettable experiences. With AirAsia’s expanding network in South Asia, including destinations like Jaipur, Bengaluru, and the Maldives, the new Kathmandu service is set to elevate the travel experience, providing both comfort and affordability for travelers.
Flight FD182 will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, departing from Don Mueang Airport at 11.50am and arriving in Kathmandu at 2pm. The return flight will leave Kathmandu at 3pm and reach Bangkok at 7.35pm, providing travelers with convenient options for exploring both cities.
