The Labour Ministry of Thailand is looking to send more Thai workers to Singapore, with a particular focus on the shipyard sector. Labour Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn recently visited Singapore with the ministry’s permanent secretary to discuss this matter with various officials.
Currently, there are around 4,000 Thai workers in Singapore, mostly employed in construction, production, welding, flight attendance, electronics, and general labor. The goal is to provide Thai workers with opportunities to develop their skills, earn money, and support their families back home.
Exporting Thai workers is a strategic move by the ministry to enhance the skills of Thai workers abroad and ensure that they contribute to the country’s economy. The recent discussions in Singapore aimed to explore new avenues for Thai workers, especially in the shipbuilding industry.
Singapore has a high demand for welders, skilled electronic workers, and experienced construction workers, particularly in the shipyard sector. The job opportunities in shipbuilding include building, repairing, and maintaining ships, and Thai workers can take up roles such as laborers, welders, painters, and ship platers without undergoing extensive testing.
This initiative presents a significant opportunity for Thailand to increase its labor export. Interested individuals can obtain more information from the Department of Employment in their respective provinces. By expanding the labor market in Singapore, both countries stand to benefit from this collaboration in terms of skills development and economic growth.
