Commerce Minister Pichai Naripthaphan led a delegation to the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai to promote Thai soft power. The event, which featured 172 countries and regions, aimed to enhance global market access and economic cooperation. Mr. Pichai inaugurated the Thailand Pavilion, showcasing Thai culture and products in the food, lifestyle, fashion, and creative services categories.
This year, the Department of International Trade Promotion brought 20 Thai businesses to the expo, with a focus on promoting Thai Select and Thai rice brands for increased recognition in China. The participation of Thai exhibitors, including those highlighting Thai soft power elements such as food, film, and Muay Thai, is expected to generate trade value of at least 60 million baht.
In addition to the exhibition, efforts to promote Thai soft power extended to Thai Select restaurants in 13 Chinese cities, where Thai food and cultural elements were showcased. The collaboration between Thailand and China reflects the strong economic ties between the two countries, with China being Thailand’s largest trading partner.
The strategic initiatives at the CIIE serve as a foundation for continued growth and cooperation between Thailand and China, paving the way for the ‘Golden Year of Friendship’ in 2025, which marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. The deepening economic relations between Thailand and China are evident in various sectors such as electric vehicles, infrastructure development, and the digital economy, highlighting the significance of their partnership.
Overall, the participation of Thai exhibitors at the CIIE not only promotes Thai soft power but also strengthens bilateral relations and economic cooperation between Thailand and China. The initiatives undertaken at the expo are crucial in enhancing Thailand’s image and market presence in China, contributing to the broader goal of boosting soft power and economic ties between the two countries.
