Thailand and Cambodia have reached an agreement to resume bus services between Bangkok and Phnom Penh, as well as Siem Reap. This marks the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic halted operations that travelers can once again make this journey.
The agreement was signed by Transport Co Acting Managing Director Atthawit Rakchamroon and Suo Vireak, chairman and CEO of Vireak Buntham Express Co. The bus services will operate on two routes starting Friday. The first route connects the capitals of the two countries, while the second route runs between Bangkok and Siem Reap, both passing through the Aranyaprathet checkpoint in Sa Kaeo province.
The decision to restart these services comes as both Thailand and Cambodia enter their high tourism season. The services were previously suspended when travel restrictions were put in place due to the global pandemic in 2020.
For the Bangkok to Phnom Penh route, buses will depart at 7am from both destinations. The fare for this route is set at 900 baht, with the journey expected to take around 11 hours. On the other hand, the Bangkok to Siem Reap route offers departures at 8am and 9am from both cities. The fare for this route is slightly lower at 750 baht, and the journey is anticipated to last around 7 hours.
This resumption of bus services not only provides convenience for travelers but also signifies a step towards the revitalization of tourism in both countries. With the high season approaching, this move is expected to boost tourism and facilitate easier travel between Thailand and Cambodia.
The cooperation between Transport Co and the Cambodian bus firm is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of these routes. Both countries are working together to provide a safe and efficient travel experience for passengers.
As travelers prepare to embark on these bus journeys once again, it is essential to adhere to any health and safety guidelines put in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19. By following these measures, passengers can enjoy a seamless travel experience while exploring the rich cultural offerings of both Thailand and Cambodia.
