The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) in Thailand has been cracking down on online gambling activities, with a recent operation resulting in the closure of over 4,000 Line Official Accounts (Line OA) linked to online gambling. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of DE, Mr. Prajin Juntong, has issued a warning to the public about the consequences of engaging in online gambling, including the risk of facing up to 5 years in prison.
DE’s Efforts to Combat Online Gambling
The Ministry of DE has been actively monitoring and tracking down individuals involved in online criminal activities, particularly those related to online gambling. These accounts were found to be used as communication channels for online gambling operators and players. To disrupt these communication channels, DE coordinated with LINE Thailand to shut down the Line Official Accounts and verify the registration information to facilitate further investigations and apprehension of wrongdoers.
