ITA Airways recently announced the launch of its new flight route from Rome to Bangkok, which will run five days a week during the winter season. The airline is using A330neo aircraft for this service. Due to the growing tourism potential in Thailand, ITA Airways has decided to extend its flights to Bangkok throughout the entirety of 2025. Although the frequency of flights will be reduced to three times a week during the summer season, the airline is optimistic about the route’s performance.

Emiliana Limosani, the chief commercial officer at ITA Airways, highlighted that the majority of passengers on this route originate from Italy, accounting for 75-80% of the total passenger count. While the airline does not currently have plans to increase daily flight capacity, it is considering potential partnerships with Thai carriers to enhance connectivity and offer passengers more destination options in the region.

Siripakorn Cheawsamoot, the TAT deputy governor for Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas, expressed optimism about the surge in Italian tourists visiting Thailand. The TAT is expecting a significant increase in Italian visitors in 2025, with direct flights from ITA Airways and Thailand’s flag carrier THAI contributing to this growth. The agency aims to attract nearly 300,000 Italian tourists next year, setting a new record high for Italian arrivals in Thailand.

In addition to the new flight route to Bangkok, ITA Airways currently serves 55 destinations, including both domestic and international routes. The airline boasts a fleet of over 100 aircraft and has seen a steady increase in passenger numbers, with a 23% year-on-year growth in the first 10 months of 2024. The average load factor for flights during the third quarter was reported at 80.9%, indicating a strong performance for the airline.

Furthermore, the TAT recently signed a letter of intent with EVA Air to promote tourism markets in both short-haul and long-haul destinations. EVA Air is set to increase its flight frequency between Taipei and Thailand, offering passengers seamless connections to other Asian countries and long-haul destinations like London, Vienna, and the US. This partnership is expected to further enhance tourism opportunities and connectivity for travelers visiting Thailand.
