Cybersecurity Firm Forecasts Rise in Cyberthreats by 2025

Cybersecurity is a growing concern for enterprises as threats are expected to increase significantly in 2025. With the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and cloud computing in Thailand, the cybersecurity landscape is becoming more challenging and complex. Sayam Tiewtranon, the chief executive of SET-listed Turnkey Communication Services (TKC), predicts that hackers will exploit new technologies to create more sophisticated and diverse threats, including advanced ransomware and supply chain attacks.

Hackers Leveraging New Technologies

Hackers are expected to take advantage of AI, IoT, and cloud computing to launch cyber-attacks that can bypass traditional defense systems. The use of IoT devices, which are constantly connected to the internet, creates new vulnerabilities for cybercriminals to exploit. Additionally, the shift towards remote working poses cybersecurity risks as employees connect to corporate networks using potentially insecure personal devices.

Shortage of Cybersecurity Personnel

Thailand is also facing a shortage of cybersecurity professionals, making it challenging to combat the escalating cyber threats. Critical infrastructure sectors, such as finance, energy, and healthcare, are likely targets for cyber-attacks in 2025. According to the 2024 ThaiCERT report, there were 1,827 cyber-attacks reported, with fake websites, data theft, and service disruptions being among the top threats.

Government Initiatives and Recommendations

To address the rising cybersecurity risks, Mr. Sayam suggests that the government should enhance cybersecurity measures, raise public and organizational awareness about cyber threats, and invest in modern cybersecurity technology. This includes utilizing AI-based intrusion detection and prevention systems to bolster defense mechanisms. The National Cybersecurity Agency has also launched the “Executive Education Certificate Program in Cybersecurity” to train senior executives from government agencies and private organizations on cybersecurity strategies.

In conclusion, as cyber threats continue to evolve and become more sophisticated, it is crucial for organizations and individuals to stay vigilant and proactive in safeguarding their data and systems against potential cyber-attacks. By investing in cybersecurity education, technology, and skilled personnel, Thailand can better prepare itself to face the challenges posed by the digital age.
