Embracing Sustainable Science and Technology: NSTDA’s Impactful Initiatives

In an effort to ensure long-term goals and sustainable development, the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) has been at the forefront of implementing innovative science and technology initiatives. Led by NSTDA president Sukit Limpijumnong, the agency has set its strategic direction to benefit various sectors and drive national development in Thailand.

Driving Change Through Research and Innovation

Through its five-year action plan (2023-2027), the NSTDA is committed to applying its research knowledge to create a positive impact. Last year, the agency focused on bio-circular-green implementation, utilizing research outcomes to benefit over 8.9 million people and 43,000 organisations. This has resulted in an economic and social impact worth over 20 billion baht, with investments in science, technology, and innovation exceeding 3.6 billion baht.

Promoting Economic Growth and Innovation

One of the key dimensions addressed by the NSTDA is fostering economic growth. By offering platforms for food and functional ingredient production, as well as research and development services, the agency has attracted over 200 million baht in investments. This has created an economic impact of over 2.3 billion baht and generated business value exceeding 7.5 billion baht.

Additionally, the NSTDA has focused on developing extracts from herbs to enhance the health and beauty sectors, leading to investments of 152 million baht in science, technology, and innovation. This initiative has generated over 320 million baht in business value.

Supporting Key Industries and Communities

The agency’s efforts also extend to supporting the electric vehicle industry supply chain, benefiting 36 organisations and resulting in an economic impact of over 860 million baht. Moreover, the development of an “AI platform for Thai” has seen a user base of over 1 million per month, showcasing the growing importance of technology in society.

Furthermore, the NSTDA’s commitment to sustainable development is evident through the development of a database of key indicators to support the country’s goals. This database aims to reduce carbon-monoxide emissions by 700,000 tonnes, leading to an economic impact worth more than 5.5 billion baht. Additionally, the agency has created a platform for the elderly and people with disabilities to access easy-to-read media content, benefitting over 142,000 individuals.

In conclusion, the NSTDA’s initiatives underscore the importance of sustainable science and technology in driving positive change and fostering innovation across various sectors in Thailand. Through research, innovation, and strategic partnerships, the agency continues to make a significant impact on the country’s development landscape.

I remember when I first learned about the NSTDA’s initiatives and how they were making a difference in the community. It’s truly inspiring to see the tangible results of their research and innovation efforts, benefiting millions of people and organizations. How do you think technology and science can further drive sustainable development in our society?
