The iCon Group case is currently under investigation, with police handing over the case file to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) on Monday for special treatment. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has already transferred 18 boxes containing complaints from 325 victims of the alleged pyramid scheme operated by the company to the DSI.
According to CIB Deputy Commissioner Pol Maj Gen Suwat Saengnum, there are still more files in the case that need to be handed over. Over 8,000 complaints have been received, totaling losses of 2.41 billion baht, from individuals across the country and even overseas. The iCon Group conducted its business by promoting online sales of products through agents and sellers.
Police investigators are committed to continuing their work on the case until the DSI formally accepts it as a special case. Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai believes that handing over the case to the DSI will enhance the effectiveness of the investigation. All 18 suspects involved in the iCon marketing hierarchy, including founder and CEO Warathaphon “Boss Paul” Waratyaworrakul, were arrested on Oct 16 following numerous fraud complaints against the company.
The suspects have been charged with colluding in public fraud and falsifying information in a computer system. Some of the suspects are celebrities who received significant amounts of money. Despite the charges, all the suspects have denied any wrongdoing. Pol Maj Gen Suwat mentioned that both the police and the DSI will press additional charges as new evidence comes to light. This ongoing investigation aims to bring justice to the victims of the iCon Group’s fraudulent activities and hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions.
