A police officer, Pol Capt Abdulhadee Yuerae, was injured in a shooting incident while riding his motorcycle home from a mosque in Yarang district on Monday night. The deputy inspector at Pattani’s Mayo police station was attacked by two men on a motorcycle, with the pillion rider firing shots at him without warning. Despite being hit in the cheek, Pol Capt Abdulhadee managed to fire back at the attackers before they fled the scene. He was then taken to Yarang Hospital by a helpful citizen.
This recent incident adds to a string of attacks on police officers returning home from mosques in the southern provinces. Just a week prior, a retired police officer who was also a Muslim prayer leader was fatally shot in front of his house after leaving a mosque in Yala. The police are actively investigating the case, searching for the injured attacker who may be seeking medical treatment and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby cameras to trace the suspects’ movements.
