A 75-year-old driver in San Bernardino made a mistake on Friday and accidentally drove his car into the middle of the crystal-clear Moesa River.
The senior was attempting to install a sunshade on the inside of the windshield of his car in a parking lot near the mountain river when the car started rolling. Fortunately, the man was able to free himself from the vehicle on his own and was practically unharmed, according to the police. However, he was still taken by ambulance to Roveredo for a medical check-up.
The fire department set up an oil barrier in the Moesa river to prevent any pollution from the vehicle. A truck crane later lifted the car out of the middle of the river.
Accidents like this serve as a reminder for all drivers, especially seniors, to take precautions to stay safe on the road. Here are some tips to help prevent similar incidents from happening:
1. Always engage the parking brake when parked: This simple step can prevent your car from rolling unintentionally.
2. Avoid distractions while driving: Focus on the road and avoid any activities that may take your attention away from driving safely.
3. Regularly check and maintain your vehicle: Make sure your car is in good working condition to prevent any mechanical failures that could lead to accidents.
4. Take extra care in unfamiliar or challenging driving situations: If you are in a new environment or facing difficult driving conditions, proceed with caution and pay extra attention to your surroundings.
By following these tips and staying vigilant on the road, drivers can reduce the risk of accidents and stay safe while driving. Remember, safety should always be a top priority when behind the wheel.
