Thailand is getting ready to participate in the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) in Azerbaijan to discuss initiatives and solutions for climate change. The Natural Resources and Environment Minister, Chalermchai Sri-on, announced that Thailand will showcase its efforts in addressing climate change at the international summit. The country aims to work towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065.
The Thailand Pavilion at COP29 will focus on four main areas: climate policy, climate technology, climate action, and climate finance. Additionally, there will be a technology and innovation zone to highlight Thailand’s initiatives in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and implementing carbon capture technologies. The pavilion will also feature various activities inspired by Moo Deng, the famous baby pygmy hippo from Thailand’s Khao Kheow Open Zoo.
In addition to showcasing Thailand’s climate change initiatives, the country will also participate in side events at COP29. These events will include discussions and forums on a wide range of topics related to climate change. The public can stay updated on the Thailand Pavilion and COP29 side events by following the Department of Climate Change and Environment’s Facebook page from November 11 to 22.
The People’s Party (PP) in Thailand has emphasized the importance of the country’s commitment to achieving net zero emission goals at COP29. List-MP Saniwan Buaban suggested guidelines for the government to discuss at the summit, including boosting climate adaptation capacity, strengthening resilience, and reducing climate-related risks for Thai citizens. She also highlighted the need for knowledge, technology, innovation, expertise, and various funding sources to support Thailand’s climate goals.
Overall, Thailand’s participation in COP29 is crucial for showcasing the country’s efforts in addressing climate change and working towards a sustainable future. The Thailand Pavilion, featuring activities inspired by Moo Deng the baby pygmy hippo, will provide a platform for exchanging ideas and experiences with other countries to combat climate change effectively.
