Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is gearing up for a trip to Kuala Lumpur to attend the 46th Asean Summit. The theme for this year’s summit is “Inclusivity and Sustainability,” and leaders from various countries will come together to discuss the region’s future direction. Departing on Sunday evening, the premier is expected to arrive in the Malaysian capital at 9.50pm, after a short flight from Thailand.
During the two-day summit, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra will participate in seven Asean sessions and also attend the 16th Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Leaders’ Summit. This marks the first major Asean leaders’ meeting of the year, where important discussions on the region’s progress and challenges will take place. The event will bring together leaders from nine Asean countries, along with Myanmar’s permanent secretary for foreign affairs, to exchange views and ideas.
One of the key agenda items for the summit is the endorsement of the 2045 Asean Community Vision, a roadmap that will guide the region’s development over the next two decades. Additionally, Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, serving as this year’s Asean Chair, will host a session with leaders from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang to explore potential collaborations. The premier’s schedule includes various diplomatic engagements and bilateral events, culminating in the signing of the Kuala Lumpur Declaration before returning to Thailand on Tuesday evening.
