On a crisp Thursday morning, the first frost of the winter season painted a picturesque scene on Doi Inthanon, Thailand’s highest peak. The temperature plummeted to a bone-chilling 4°C, marking the coldest day of the year thus far. Visitors who ventured to this majestic mountaintop were met with a stunning display of hoar frost, also known as moey khab, delicately coating the grass near the Phra Mahathat Chedi and the ranger office of Doi Inthanon National Park in Chom Thong district.
Frosty Delight at Doi Inthanon
The frosty spectacle wasn’t limited to just one area. Reports indicated that the temperature dipped to 4°C at the Kew Mae Pan viewpoint, 8°C at the mountain’s summit, and 10°C at the ranger office. Kriangkrai Chaiphicet, the chief of the national park, revealed that a total of 3,981 visitors flocked to Doi Inthanon since Wednesday evening. Among them were 2,641 Thai locals and 1,340 foreigners, arriving in almost a thousand vehicles to witness the frost-kissed landscape.

The Northern Meteorological Centre issued a warning about an incoming cold air mass originating from China, which had already enveloped northern Vietnam and Laos. This chilly front was anticipated to sweep across northeastern Thailand on Thursday, bringing with it the likelihood of scattered rain and brisk morning temperatures. As the weather continues to fluctuate, the Centre advised people to take extra precautions to safeguard their well-being during these transitional periods.
