Hospital Negligence Leads to Tragic Patient Death
SI SA KET – A harrowing incident unfolded at Kantharalak hospital in Si Sa Ket, resulting in the tragic death of a 31-year-old patient, Sa-ard Bunla. The young man, grappling with alcohol withdrawal, was admitted to the hospital for treatment but met a grim fate at the hands of hospital staff.
The unsettling chain of events began on Dec 4 when Sa-ard, a heavy drinker, sought medical help after experiencing seizures following sudden abstinence from alcohol. Despite initially showing signs of improvement during his two-night stay, a drastic turn of events on Dec 7 would seal his untimely demise.
Alarming Altercation Unfolds
In the wee hours of the morning on Dec 7, Mr. Thongsuk Kaewraksa, Sa-ard’s father, was informed by hospital staff that his son was to be transferred to the psychiatric unit due to his erratic behavior. Allegedly, Sa-ard had been talking incoherently, remaining awake all night, and engrossed in his phone, prompting the staff’s decision.
A chilling security footage from the shared ward where Sa-ard was lodged shed light on the distressing incident. The video captured two male staff members restraining Sa-ard, forcibly pushing him to the ground, and subjecting him to physical violence. Shockingly, one of the staffers was seen repeatedly striking Sa-ard on the head, while female staff members joined in the ordeal.
Grieving Father’s Heart-Wrenching Revelation
Helpless and distraught, Mr. Thongsuk recounted hearing the commotion from behind closed doors but was denied entry to the room. Despite expressing concerns about the excessive force being used, he was callously reassured that such treatment was standard protocol. Tragically, when Mr. Thongsuk finally saw his son at 6 am, Sa-ard was found bound to the bed, bearing visible wounds from the ordeal.
The devastating turn of events culminated in Sa-ard’s heartbreaking demise at 8 pm, leaving his family shattered and seeking answers. Dr. Thanong Weerasangpong of Si Sa Ket Provincial Public Health disclosed that the two male staff members involved in the incident have been suspended pending a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding Sa-ard’s death.
