Three individuals, including two Thai nationals and one Myanmar citizen, were apprehended in Chon Buri for allegedly trafficking a 10-year-old girl from Myanmar and subjecting her to forced labor. The suspects, identified as Porntip, 65, and Saman, 50, both Thai nationals, along with Naw Tha Tha Yee, the Myanmar national, have been charged with human trafficking and exploiting a minor under the age of 15.
The investigation into this disturbing case commenced in February when authorities discovered the young girl sleeping in a cemetery in Chon Buri with visible marks and bruises on her body. Following this discovery, the Social Development and Human Security office intervened to provide care for the child. Subsequent inquiries revealed that she had been smuggled into Thailand illegally from Myanmar by Naw Tha Tha Yee, who had purportedly purchased her from her parents and brought her into the country under the guise of adoption.
Upon her arrival in Thailand, the girl was first taken to Mr. Saman’s residence in Samut Prakan before being transferred to Ms. Porntip’s house in Chon Buri, where she was coerced into working as a domestic servant. The young victim recounted harrowing experiences of being confined, physically abused, and deprived of food as punishment for minor errors, prompting her decision to flee from her captors.
During the arrests of the suspects, authorities also encountered another girl in their custody, raising concerns that additional victims may have been trafficked into the country. This distressing case underscores the pervasive issue of human trafficking and exploitation, emphasizing the critical need for continued vigilance and action to combat such heinous crimes against vulnerable individuals.
