Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut Emerges as Top Choice for Prime Minister

In a recent opinion poll conducted by the National Institute of Development Administration (Nida), opposition leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut has emerged as the most favoured choice for the position of prime minister. The survey, which sampled 2,000 people nationwide from December 19 to 24, revealed that 29.85% of respondents viewed Mr. Natthaphong as their top choice for premiership.

Paetongtarn Shinawatra Trails Closely Behind

Following closely behind Natthaphong is Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the leader of the ruling Pheu Thai Party and daughter of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra. 28.80% of respondents picked her as their preferred prime minister candidate, citing her experience in business administration, representation of the young generation, and modern political perspective.

Other Contenders and Party Popularity

The survey also revealed that Energy Minister Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, leader of the United Thai Nation Party, garnered support from 10.25% of respondents, while Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai party, received 6.45% of the votes. Additionally, Thai Sang Thai Party leader Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, Palang Pracharath Party leader Gen Prawit Wongsuwon, and Democrat Party leader Chalermchai Sri-on also received varying levels of support.

In terms of party popularity, Natthaphong’s People’s Party came out on top with 37.30% of respondents supporting the party. This was followed by Paetongtarn’s Pheu Thai Party with 27.70% support, the Thai United Nation Party with 10.60% support, Bhumjaithai with 5.15% support, Democrat with 3.40% support, and Palang Pracharath with 3.05% support.
